My best friend, a bro to me, is pulling away….?
My best friend of 3 years has over the past year been really inconsistant. At times we are best buds and mutual friends even envy the bond we have. It’s weird, we’re like the two guys off wedding crashers, jokes and all! I mean there’s little or nothing I would not do for my friend. Theres a long background story of course, but to give u an idea how we, or maybe "I" lookout for him is getting him back in college when he had no idea how to apply to a different university, giving him a place to crash when home life was diplorable, just there whenever he needed something, ya know, what a friend is supposed to do. We both are pretty popular and are actually well known in the city where we live because we do a ot of music. I say all that to say is that we have a lot of people who want to be around us because of that and many people who want to cling to us. But we always kept our friendship first, even through the crazy girlfriends we both have had that were unsuccessful. Basically we never let a outside source break up family cuz that is what we are. For us to have been through soo much stuff good and bad together, he seems really distant. When u know someone like the back of our hand, it doesnt take much for you to notice a difference. Just recently we fell out big time over something he thinks is small, but to me it’s the principle. He always thinks things will work themselves out, but never puts forth the effort to work them out. I started thinking of all the stuff I do for him because many dont know his financial and family situation. And I feel used and unappreciated. I am not going to cash out on a grown man, no matter how close we are, and u cant even show appreciation. Long story short, there is no reciprication in the friendship, and u shold not have to keep track of who does what or who does most in a friendship, ut it should not be this one sided. The thing that gets me the most is he seems to care less about it. Makes me think for sometime now, I was just someone he could depend on in a pinch. Sucky feeling. Havent talked with him in a little over a week and to be honest, I dont know if it is even worth it. Take it away advice givers……
If you care, it is worth it. Don’t give up on a bond this strong. No matter how cliche it may sound, relationships go through this. The only thing that matters is that the relationship comes out stronger and better in the end. I would give him some space, let him clear his head, but sit him down and tell him everything you just typed. That is the only way it will get fixed. I know he thinks everything just works itself out, and over time this will.. but it will take effort on both parts, not just yours, to get it started. The only thing you can do is talk to him. He might be going through something deeper than he wants to share. I don’t think he was using you, it sounds like you guys were brothers. If he was using you, you would have known earlier.
It seems like he’s in a funk right now. I’m sorry for what you’re going through… I know it’s stupid, and it plain sucks. You’ll make it through it. Talk to him when the time feels right.
