Trippy Abstract Artist?
I’m trying to figure out an artists name. I believe it is a man, his paintings are very "trippy", weird and distorted. They are usually bright in colors and I remember seeing mushrooms, an elephant, and just very odd, twisted and merged people and such. His paintings are abstract and a little cartoon-ish but very detailed and defined. His work almost reminds me of Nightmare Before Christmas in a way. Any ideas??

Is it just me or are humans failing?
Am I having delusions? Am I dreaming? Or is everybody in this world insanely stupid? I am 15 years old and deeply disappointed by the human race. What’s up with everybody trying to duplicate, show-off etc?
Why do people typically avoid to think nowadays?
Why do they have to fake their behavior? Why is the greatest of humans the prettiest, dumbest and most pretentious? Why does everybody live in a goddamn lie?
Why do I have to act stupid when I go out with my friends in order to attract their attention or not to be called a "smart-ass"?
Why am I deeply scorned by people’s tendency to overestimate sex and money? Why don’t people realize the depth of some things and would rather laugh about it? Why do they not accept the different, thus more Intelligent being? At school and among my friends I find my self lying and faking again and again. You know what? I HATE THEM! I HATE my peers! I HATE even my friends! All their good at is being stupid and all their eager to do is to make fun of things. All that friends are good for is to be a dumbass with them, and THAT is why I need friends. They all tend to be so shallow…
I praise nature (I typically avoid the term God since I am not yet sure of his existence) for NOT making me a genius OR physically VERY attractive, because then…I would be so lonely. But since all people are so stupid, why do I need them? I really wish I could give up on people, live without them, perhaps kill them!
I may sound like a douche bag to you. Is it all because I am a teenager?

In a sense, it IS because you are a teenager. That is because it is around your age that humans gain the capacity to view the world in the kind of abstract manner you describe. As children, we tend to move through life without a lot of consideration or philosophizing. Our brains are still developing and in mid-to-late adolescence, most of us begin to see the world in a manner that is very different from how we saw it as children. Sometimes these revelations can be quite shocking. We suddenly feel as if we have been living a lie, or that all around us, everyone is fake and superficial. It’s kind of like that movie, the Matrix - we wake up to a world that is not necessarily as it seems. Some of us spend our lives trying to understand these things. Others kind of go "whatever" and keep on living the "lie." Most are probably somewhere in between. My personal opinion is that it is important that people start thinking about these things and use these thoughts to inform the decisions they make in life. It is kind of pointless to hate humanity, as we are all humans ourselves. But it is easy to see where we have much room for improvement and begin working toward that improvement. The easiest place to start is with ourselves.

Hello George. I’m glad I read your little bit of a whine about people. It took me way back to when I was a young fella many many moons ago. I felt exactly as you do now. The sad thing is I still feel exactly the same about people now, and except for the necessities in life I keep well away from them. I don’t think there are many men who would live the life I have lead. IE : long lonely walks, visits to museums and of course my lifelong passion, Poetry. Masefield Yeats Burns Service, I could relate to these men. They turned me on and I found that I could live this kind of life, switched off from the rest of the world as it were. no you are not wrong. Humans have a highly developed brain that they don’t use. But they also have alot of bad qualities that are in human nature. I am much older then you, so it’s not your age.
People like us will not have many friends in live, but aknowlidge that the human race is only a higher developed mammal. So be understanding , even if its hard to understand. As you go through live try to surround yourself with people that suit you more than others. And please stop the hate as it will only make you feel bad and nobody else.
As of the GOD question. Since you seem to be a bright person. I believe that the ultima answer for some is that God created all this. We all have wondered what created God, but noone seems to have that answer. My and as you will find out other intelligent beeings on this earth feel as noone ever had to create anything as creation is ongoing. Life doesnt come and go, it just changes its form and there is no Beginning or End. As i am writing this i am aware of the fact that me as a person must be the most unimportant thing there is in this Universe. But humans don’t want to be unimportant so therefore they must find something or someone to make them seem important.
And yes i am dissapointed in humans too. But as you get older you will realize that there is nothing you can do about it as the wicked people get more and more power and the good ones keep somehow not succeding as much.
But keep in mind, no matter how dumm you think others may be, keep your values up. Even torce the not so intelligent of us.

I am impressed with your insight at such a young age…I cannot disagree with you either… I am 35 years old and feel like i have witnessed such a change in the human race just in my short time in this life… Our society’s perspectives and focus are lost in superficial bullshit, to put it bluntly…Our young people have become obsessed with looks and what clothes they are wearing or who likes them as opposed to their studies or giving back. Now, grant it, when I was a teenager, I wasn’t thinking about how i was going to change the world, but I do know that I was nothing like the teenagers we see today. I currently work with adolescents in the field of social work and the parents are worse than the kids so a lot of the behaviors and lack of character are coming from parents who never got it or just have forgotten what it is like to be an intelligent human being…
You do not have to act stupid to be around these shallow,souless individuals.. You sound like you are on the cusp of understanding many things about life and people and i encourage you to not give up hope and to just be YOU! Individuality is the key and not being a follower… Yes, this is easier said than done especially being 15 and trying to find your identity and all but there are ways around it… I would try finding hobbies or other outlets with like minded people like yourself… Dealing with idiots on a daily basis can be rather frustrating and make you feel like your losing your mind sometimes… You think, "Is there anyone out there who can hold an intelligent conversation??!!" They are few and far between, but they are out there and i would search hard b/c the general population is not the best resource!

Yeah, pretty much, except not entirely. The world can be a pretty sucky place, and there’s a lot of stupidity out there. However, a lot of what you’re reacting to right now is just high school and mass media. Once you graduate, you have a lot more freedom to find people that you actually like and who like you, and it’s much easier to ignore the media. It’s still there, but it’s more manageable.
Also, while it looks like we give so much respect and attention to hot and rich people, it’s not entirely the case. Hillary Clinton was recently named Gallup’s Most Admired Woman of the Year, and only one of the top ten, Elin Woods (why is she on there?) really made me wince. Okay, two, but I never liked Palin and she’s at least a politician and famous in her own right and for her own work, not just because she’s some cheating dude’s wife. Yeah, life’s a lot easier if you’re pretty, especially if you’re a woman, and we’re really shallow as a culture. However, outside of clique-ish high schools, smart people really are admired. Weird people are tolerated more, too. Still get funny looks, yeah, but you can always find people to geek out over even the most ridiculous things with you. Good luck. The next three years will feel like absolutely forever (believe me; been there, done that, was the weird chick in high school), but then it will be over forever and you can go on to do something more fun with your life. Until then, have you considered volunteering or getting an internship? Maybe something where you are introduced to kind-hearted, non-shallow people? Or are working with people who are smart and really like their jobs? It’ll help you get some perspective, which is really hard to come by in high schools. God, how I remember how that was.

I'm not sold on global warming because the winters are getting colder, icier and more snowy except the tropics?
There was one fluke year in which winter temperatures averaged in the 60s in NYC. How can Al Gore and his minions from that isolated anomaly extrapolate that the planet is heating up. The polar ice caps melting and the lack of ice in the polar bear tundra are a natural climatic shift. They have nothing to do with fossil fuel emissions, The temperatures there are as frigid as they’ve ever been. The ice caps was an anomaly, something which Al Gore has never heard of. The man has talked about nothing but global warming for the last 10 years and there is no such thing as natural phenomena with him. He’s delusional. That’s not to say we shouldn’t be stewards of the environment. But we should be environmentally conscious without having a Chicken Little mentality as Gore has.

I have read reports from NOAA, NASA and the UN and these people have all done studies of the entire planet. All of these studies say the planet was the warmest from 2000 to 2009, out of all the data collected from 1850 till today. I do not know what studies the 192 countries meeting in Copenhagen used but they agree with NOAA, NASA and the UN. I think the UN is smart enough to keep the entire world believing them. I know NOAA and NASA are a very competent group of weather people because for one thing I have used their information sailing for about 25 or 30 years. If there is a group with the background and the hardware of these groups that disagrees they should have went to these groups and told them what they had. But all people have to disprove the facts that there to see are accusations. Just the fact that the Northwest passage is open for the first time in mans history should tell anybody with common sense something is going on.

Since it can be seen on the attached graph, and it is broadly acknowledged by science that climates vary naturaly and the graph conforms to what is expected based on our historical accounts. It can be clearly seen that recent warming is nothing unusual and seems to more related to recovering from the Maunder Minimum. CO2 did not drive climate change in the past and there is little reason to believe it is now.

First of all the correct terminology is global climate change. The planet’s climate is changing, not necessarily warming up around the world all at once. Over the past few years weather has become more severe such as flooding, hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. due to climate change. Animal populations are also moving from their normal distributions due to habitat becoming unsuitable because it has changed so fast. The earth has naturally warmed and cooled for billions of years, except this time man has become a catalyst to warming the planet.
