It also depends on what condition they’re in. If they’re raggedy with bent corners, you’d be lucky to get five bucks a piece of them if that much. If they’re in great condition they could be worth a lot. I’m assuming they’re Leaf (Topps didn’t start until 52)

if you sell them auction style, you will get more money if you sell them seperatly

Sounds like you have cards from the 1940 Play Ball set. Are they original or reprints?
If they are original it’s probably best to sell them on ebay one at a time. Some of these guys didn’t appear on many cards so by selling them one at a time you may get a family member or fan who will over pay for a particular card. I know because Ken O’Dea is my father in law’s cousin and I’ve bought a few of his card on ebay before.
If they are reprints then they’re not worth much at all so it might be better to sell them as a group.

The condition of the cards will matter a great deal, as well as the specific set. If they are from Play Ball, that’s not amazingly great, but still pretty good. You have several Hall Of Famers. If any are in Excellent or better condition, they are probably worth having professionally graded, which will leave them permanently encapsulated and with an impartial condition score.
HOFers that I recognize by name:
Mack, Cronin, Stengel, Kelly, Frisch, Wagner, Speaker, Heilmann, Bender, Evers, Mathewson, Baker, Carey, Cochrane, Jennings, Traynor, Hooper, Faber, Goslin, Chance, McGraw, Bottomley, and Lazzeri. (I may have missed one or two.)
Joe Jackson also commands a lot of collector interest, though for different and less proud reasons.
The HOFer cards, if they are in high condition, would probably sell best individually. Me, I’d sell the rest in one lot or blocs of eight or ten, because they would be of interest to set-builders more than individual player collectors (there just aren’t that many who specialize in, say, John Rucker). Perhaps break them up by team (Giants, Dodgers, …), because there are team collectors out there as well.
Nice find. Hope they are in good shape.
